A delight to rediscover over and over again
Having read most of Dunn's poetry, and in particular, having read this book several times, I find that Dunn is a writer I can always come back to. His style is unique, and always gets to the crux of what seems to drive human actions. Not only are his poems accessible and inspiring but they exemplify why I read poetry.

If I were to own only one book of poetry, this would be it!
Whether you're a novice of poetry or the next "Great One," you'll connect with these poems by Dunn. Not only is he truly a master of the language in free verse form, but also a master of bringing any subject matter to life. He has an understanding beyond what many poets often do, but at the same time he communicates this understanding through very accessible and clear writing. I am always going back to this book of poetry by Dunn.

(in particular, be sure to read "The Routine Things Around the House" and "At the Smithville Methodist Church")

Ninja High School

Authors: Ben Dunn and Carlos Castro

Funny, suspenseful, romantic; all rolled into one!
Think back to when you were 16. Do you still remember how it was like to worry about stuff that would worry 16 year olds? Compared to Jeremy Feeple's character, I'll bet the problems that worried us all back then would never even come close! I've read Ninja High School since its earliest printings way back in 1990, and instantly fell in love with the story line! It's great to know that the series is still out there! Funny, suspenseful, romantic; all rolled into one great comic series that readers are sure to keep interest in for a long time! A must for all manga fans out there!

The Antarctic Press's greatest series - collected!
This is the first collection of the incredible comic book series, which contains issues #1-3 1/2. The story is awesome, a tale of intergalactic relations, rivalry of ninja clans, a 16 year old boy who is forced into a ridiculous mess against his will, and steam! Manga fans will love it.

On Board the Uss Mason: The World War II Diary of James A. Dunn
Published in Hardcover by Ohio State Univ Pr (Txt) (May, 1996)
Authors: James A. Dunn, Mansel G. Blackford, and John Sibley Butler
Average review score:

Recommended for military buffs and Black Studies students.
During World War II, James A. Dunn was a signalman on the USS Mason, a destroyer escort and the only ocean-going warship in the American navy to employ African Americans in positions other than cook or messmate. Manned by African American seamen (and commanded by white officers), the USS Mason made ten crossings of the Atlantic from 1944 to 1945, escorting convoys of merchant ships to and from the United Kingdom and North African, and operating in hunter-killer groups searching for German submarines. Dunn kept a day-to-day diary during his spare time on board the Masson. He recorded the daily life aborad the ship, including the duties and pastimes that made shipboard life endurable. The diary also reveals what it meant to be an African American in a white navy within a segregated American society -- including the shipboard tensions, cooperation and sense of unity. On Board The USS Mason is a unique and invaluable contribution to the growing body of World War II literature and eye-witness accounts, and will be of immense interest to students of Black Studies and American military history.

Unexcusible Intentionable Oversites of War
The crew of USS Mason's action in the North Atlantic was a showing of a well disiplined well led brave group of men. Being from Boston, Mass. I am aware of thier heroic actions, the DE Mason was built here at the Charlestown Navy Yard when I was about 6 years old. I personally feel the Captain on down took a real royal screwing. The Captain's log showed reason enough to be reconized but it was ignored by some predjudice Brass higher up the chain of command. The book well presented! A USMarine(caucasion)Korean Vet

Potting Places
Published in Hardcover by Friedman/Fairfax Publishing (July, 1999)
Author: Teri Dunn
Average review score:

This is exactly what I was looking for!
I cannot say enough good things about this book. I purchased no less than five books to help me plan my new potting shed, and Teri Dunn's book has by far been the one I have picked up time and again. Her writing style is written for the "normal" gardener, like me, that doesn't garden with her nose in the air. There are plenty of books written for the upper crust gardener, but I like someone to speak to me without constantly reminding me that they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Someone with a refreshing and direct style like Teri's is a breath of fresh air. Her ideas are really genuinely helpful, and there are a TON! Lots of special tips I haven't heard of before, and I've been gardening a long time. The pictures in the book are great, and really capture the feel and romance I want my potting shed to have. Gardeners are romantic and ridiculously practical at the same time, reusing and recycling everything, and she speaks to that directly. There are many commonsense ideas to help organize, and fun projects to do. I'm truly motivated, and her book has really helped me prioritize the work I need to do to set up, and I'll be ready by spring. I've written another critique on one of the books I purchased that was a waste of money and huge disappointment.

A Gardener's Delight...
What a beautiful, practical, inspiring book this is! Luckily, I received this book as a gift right at the start of Spring this year and it's helped me tremendously in getting organized for my flower and vegetable gardening. I'm laying claim to half of my husband's storage shed in the back yard to start my own potting area! The photographs of potting sheds, potting spaces and benches are a visual feast. I particularly enjoyed the potting and gardening tips in every chapter. There are also useful tips on gardening tools and supplies, storage and seed starting. Even if I were not a gardener, I'd enjoy this gorgeous book. If you are a gardener, though, it's definitely a MUST HAVE!!!

Perfect for holiday gift-giving
Prayer Bead Box is a gift package perfect for holiday gift-giving: it's a keepsake box with a string of 108 sandalwood beads in a velvet sachet and a four-color hardcover book which provides the history and significance of prayer beads over various religions. A beautiful package which will appeal to a wide audience.

Prayer Beads
As a glass bead artist I was looking for something about the spiritual aspects of beads. This book tells how people through the ages have used beads in their lives. (get the boxed edition with the sandelwood beads - they smell wonderful!) I loved this book!

Presenting Young Adult Fantasy Fiction (Twayne's United States Authors Series, No 699)
Published in Hardcover by Twayne Pub (July, 1998)
Author: Cathi Dunn MacRae
Average review score:

Excellent on all counts!
This book has more information about fantasy fiction than I'd ever dreamed of encountering in one place. I was continually amazed by the insight shown in the reviews by the teenagers, and delighted by their descriptive comments. This book is a must-own for anyone who enjoys reading fantasy fiction- young adult or not.

An excellent look at YA Fantasy...
"Success" is the first word that comes to mind after reading MacRae's contribution to the Twayne U.S. Authors Series. Her's is the first serious look at Young Adult Fantasy that has ever come to my attention, and I couldn't put it down.

Four author biography/critiques are presented throughout the volume. Terry Brooks, Jane Yolen, Barbara Hambly, and the lesser-known Meredith Ann Pierce are examined, from timelines of their lives to summaries of each of their works. Personal information and quotes from these acclaimed writers are the result of long research and personal and by-mail interviews. Other authors are also noted in less detail, such as Ursula K. LeGuin, Susan Cooper, David Eddings, and Robert Jordan.

Even more important than the indepth looks at authors is the young adult input in this book. Cathi Dunn MacRae, a young adult librarian, spent five and a half years heading a group of teen Fantasy lovers at the Public Library in Boulder, Colorado. The teenagers, who called themselves the Fantasy Fanatics, met to read and discuss Fantasy books. They filled out surveys called YAFERs, giving their preferences on various aspects of YA Fantasy for *Presenting.* Their opinions on mentioned books are included at the end of each of the sensibly-arranged sections. It's fun to watch the opinions of the teenagers throughout--for example, the occasional collision of like and dislike between Allison Barrett and Ashley Burns. What's easily apparent is that we owe the Fantasy Fanatics as much thanks for this book as we do MacRae. Their influence on this work, from their opinions and thoughts right down to the cover art (an excellent, striking black-and-white portrait of two winged tigers by Fanatic Galadriel Wills) is unique and invaluable.

Simply put, if you are interested in YA Fantasy, you are interested in purchasing this book. Whether you love Yolen or loathe *Shannara*, this will be $ well-spent--when was the last time non-fiction kept you up past your bedtime?

Presidents As Candidates: Inside the White House for the Presidential Campaign
Published in Paperback by Routledge (July, 2003)
Author: Kathryn Dunn Tenpas
Average review score:

Presidents As Candidates
Great insight from the most prolific writer in the most prolific Dunn (no e) family. Compelling, humorous, exuberent , stupendous, supercalafragilistic, expee, aladoucous....what else can I say. I feel as though I know the author. My only negative comment is that I wish there were more pictures...of Kathryn.

Amazing perspective and fills a "GAP" in Pres. Elections
I truly loved this book. it is a bargain at twice the price. Can't afford not to get this anthology on the public and private lives on presidents. Especially in an election year, you can not pass the opportunity to get behind the scenes and experience this first hand. After reading this, I felt like I almost grew up with the author. Excellente'!

Prior to Consciousness

Author: Jean Dunn
Average review score:

instant enlightenment
Want to stop your mind? Read this book. Read the other reviews too. They really say all I want to say.

Most Mind Blowing, Conceptual Destroying Book Available
Prior to Consciousness is set up as a number of interviews between Nisargadatta Maharaj and spiritual seekers from all over the world. These talks were given from the August of 1980 till just before Maharaj's death in September 1981. Through clear and simple words Maharaj tears away the false and leaves the reader with the pure state of one's own beingness. Nisargadatta's main advice is for one to stablize in the state of the "I am," which is really one's only reference. Nisargadatta is similar in his approach as Ramana Maharshi, getting one to question the questioner. Freedom is yours to be had, you are free already; just get rid of all your notions of freedom. This is the most powerful book I have ever read and still continue to enjoy reading sections of it whenever I pick it up. If one is interested in Advaita this is a must.

Public Policy Analysis: An Introduction

Informational Structure of Policy Analysis: Dunn's approach
C. Nicandro Cruz UNAM. México

This book is an precise and extensive endeavor for understanding the problems, boudaries and potential use and application of knowledge for improving governmental performance.

Te basis of Dunn's approach to policy analysis, is that it depends to the production and transformation of five policy relevant information (about policy problems, policy futures, policy actions, policy outcomes and policy performance) through five policy-analytic procedures (problem-structuring, forecasting, recommendation, monitoring, and evaluation).

Perhaps the most important distinction is that problem structuring, "...which affects the use and asessment of the other four procedures, is really a metamethod (method of methods) that funtions as central regulator of the overall process of policy analysis." (page 65)

This analytical framework provide one of the most single effective way to analyze public policies and government programs, where the most important analyst's role is both to generate useful knowledge for decision making in all phases of policy process, and to generate plussible arguments by analythical procedures.

It is an ideal book for bachelor and graduate students interested in public problems that face governements, and in the role that can play all policy analyst in policy making.

Dunn's contribution to the study and use of policy analysis in academic and professional activities its out of question. 06-04-200
